The orange taco truck in a surf-shop parking lot on the Pacific Rim Highway that grew into a Vancouver restaurant group. Fish tacos, burritos and a chocolate-diablo cookie, eaten on a picnic table after the beach.

Tacofino started here in 2009 as a single truck feeding surfers and has since spread across Vancouver, but the original still sits in the lot on the highway between Cox Bay and town. It is the Tofino lunch: a fish taco and a lime soda at a picnic table with sand still on your feet.

Do not expect comfort or speed in August. Do expect it to be worth it.
