Dockside takeaway, Seafood, Fish and chips

Red Fish Blue Fish

A shipping container on a wharf in the Inner Harbour serving sustainably sourced fish and chips, tacones and chowder to a queue that forms before it opens. Eat on the dock with the seaplanes landing beside you.

Victoria$$Moderate

It is hard to be nearer the water than this: the kitchen is a repurposed container on the float below Wharf Street, the tables are the dock, and the harbour traffic — floatplanes, water taxis, the whale boats leaving — is the entertainment. The fish is the point, sourced with an eye on sustainability and fried to order.

Because it is outdoors and tiny, it is not a place to linger on a wet day, and the line at noon in July is real. Go mid-afternoon, order a tacone and chowder, and watch the harbour.

What it does well

  • Tempura-battered halibut and cod
