What this site is, and what it is not

Every tour here is a listing from Viator, a TripAdvisor company, captured when we last synchronised the catalogue. The titles, descriptions, photos, "from" prices, ratings and review counts are Viator's and the operators'. We never edit a rating, write a review, or add urgency the listing does not carry.

Prices are shown in Canadian dollars because that is the currency we asked Viator for at sync time. They are starting prices at that moment, not live quotes; Viator's own page shows current prices in your currency.

When you click "Check availability" you leave for Viator, where dates, prices and cancellation terms are live and the booking is completed. We may earn a commission on bookings made through our links. The price you pay is the same as booking on Viator directly, and outbound links are marked as sponsored.

Viator files products for Victoria, Nanaimo, Tofino, Campbell River and the rest under a single Vancouver Island destination, and it files many Vancouver-based day trips there too. Since Victoria to Tofino is a five-hour drive, that is not a useful way to browse, so at sync time we classify each product by where it begins.

We read the operator's own start-location text first, then Viator's primary destination, then the title, in that order of trust. A product that starts in Vancouver, Whistler or Seattle is labelled a mainland departure and listed separately. A product whose signals disagree is flagged for review and hidden from listings and the sitemap until a person resolves it. At the last sync that gave 281 island departures, 6 mainland departures and 3 under review.

The label on each tour page quotes the operator's meeting-point note where Viator supplies one. Always confirm the exact address on Viator before you book; we can be wrong, and operators move.

The hotel and restaurant pages are a short list across areas, styles and budgets, not a directory. Nobody pays to be listed and we earn nothing from those pages. Each entry links only to the venue's own website, and facts such as amenities, cuisine and seasonal closures are limited to what the venue itself publishes, with the date we last checked shown on the page.

We have no hotel booking partner. Hotel pages show no rates and no availability. If a partner is added in future, the link will be labelled as an affiliate link on every page it appears on.

The events calendar lists festivals, wildlife seasons, holiday weekends and garden seasons that can be traced to an official organiser, park, municipality or ticket seller. Each entry shows its status and the date we last verified it, and all times are Pacific time. When an organiser has not published dates, we say so rather than guess.

Several tours on the island are run by First Nations on their own territories. We only describe an experience as Indigenous-owned or led when the operator's own listing or website says so, using the nation's own name, and we do not write generic cultural copy on their behalf.

Every photograph on the site is a real photo from the tour listing it appears with, served from Viator's media network under our partner integration. We use no stock or generated imagery, and we do not borrow a tour photo to stand in for a town, hotel or restaurant we have no photograph of. Those pages are typographic instead.

Our value is in careful sorting, transparent sourcing and plain explanation. Where we are uncertain, we say so, and every time-sensitive page carries the date it was last checked.
