L'École has been the answer to 'where should we have dinner in Victoria' for long enough that it needs no introduction locally. The formula is classic brasserie — a short menu, precise cooking, a room of dark wood and mirrors — applied to Vancouver Island's ingredients, with the daily specials on the board doing the seasonal work.

It is a few steps from Fan Tan Alley and the old town, which makes it the natural end to a walking tour or a day on the water. Reservations matter.
