Oak Bay is Victoria's quiet, English-flavoured neighbour, and the hotel on its shore is the one place in the capital that feels like a resort: pools looking out at the Chatham Islands and Mount Baker, a spa, a good pub, and a village high street of bookshops behind it.

It is not the base for early whale departures — the harbour is a drive away — but it is the base for people who want the city in the day and the sea at night.
