Painter's Lodge

The historic fishing lodge on Discovery Passage that hosted film stars in the 1950s, now a waterfront resort with a marina, pool and a water taxi to its sister lodge on Quadra Island. The classic Campbell River base for a wildlife trip.

Painter's has been the address in Campbell River since the salmon-fishing boom, and it still looks the part: a lodge on the water with a fleet of boats at the dock and photographs of Bob Hope with a chinook in the hallway. Today it is as much a base for grizzly and whale trips as for fishing, and the dock has its own charters.

It is a short drive from the downtown marinas where most tours check in, and the water taxi across to April Point on Quadra is a pleasant evening in itself.
