Hastings House is the Gulf Islands' one grand address: a 1940 manor built to look older, with rooms in the house, the barn and the cottages, gardens down to the harbour, and a restaurant that draws on the estate's own orchard and the island's farms. Ganges village and the Saturday market are a five-minute walk.
It is a splurge and a slow one; come for two nights, take the ferry from Swartz Bay as a foot passenger, and let the island do the rest.
