Hiking, Rainforest & Caves on Vancouver Island

Near Victoria, guided hikes take in East Sooke Regional Park's coastal trail, Goldstream Provincial Park's waterfall and Mount Finlayson, and the rainforest around Sooke and Port Renfrew on the West Coast Road. Further north, the Cathedral Grove old-growth stand on the road to Port Alberni is the most-visited big-tree walk on the island and usually comes bundled with Coombs and a waterfall stop; the Comox Valley adds Nymph Falls and the Seal Bay forest.

Horne Lake Caves, inland from Qualicum Beach, is the island's caving centre: guided tours from family walks to helmet-and-headlamp explorations, and it runs year-round because it is underground. Ziplines near Sooke and canyoning at Port Alice on the North Island round out the adventure side.

Most of these are pickup tours from Victoria or meet-at-the-trailhead tours that assume you have a car. Read the meeting point before booking a trail an hour and a half from your hotel.
