Mount Washington above the Comox Valley is the island's ski destination and Family Day is one of its busiest weekends; transfers from Nanaimo and Comox airports run in season and are listed under transfers. Victoria in mid-February is mild enough for the harbour walks and the winter whale-watching departures.

Salmon run at Goldstream Provincial Park

Every autumn tens of thousands of chum salmon return to the Goldstream River, twenty minutes from downtown Victoria, to spawn and die in the shallows beside the trail. Bald eagles follow. It is one of the most accessible salmon runs on the coast and free to watch.
